About Farm Camp for Children ages 5-12

Arrival

Coming through the Big Red Barn campers head onto the farm with towering trees, green fields and ducks and bunnies on the horizon. They are greeted by the counselor of their group and play until everyone arrives. An all-camp circle gathers everyone together for songs and inspiration for the day and then they head to their "bunks', an indoor space that is their home away from home to get out of any inclement weather and to keep their things. Campers are divided into age groups: Green Beans ages 5-6, Sweet Potatoes ages 7-9, and Zucchinis ages 10-12.

Activities

Cooking, art, nature classes, and archery (for campers ages 7 and up) are done by age group in the mornings. Groups can combine for choice time activities in the afternoon and recess when the creek is the favorite place to head to cool off and find critters. Other afternoon fun includes: games, sprinkler time, fort building and crafts. Nature is all around and our teacher.

Enrichment

Special guests come weekly to offer interactive performances, or to lead theme-related activities. These have included: The Trenton Circus Squad, Hawk Mountain Raptor program, PA Natural Resources Council for environmental education, the 4H for hands-on science and art programs, and music and movement programs. Learning happens everywhere all the time about nature, animals, botany, games, nutrition, science and friendship. Campers, Counselors-in-Training, counselors, teachers, and support staff make a special community together filled with friends.

Wellness and Safety

Good health in the community is maintained with caring vigilance of families and a nurse on staff and through the guidance of the CDC, county and state health guidelines with safety as our priority.  Social and emotional wellness are cultivated with the support of a social worker and as everyone contributes to a positive community of friends. Two fresh homemade snacks are provided daily.  Exercise comes naturally when exploring the farm and through big group games. The beauty of the farm and camp activities use all of the senses cultivating imagination and joy.

Wild About Animals June 23-27

Come explore the wild world of Snipes Farm! We’ll adventure through the creeks, woods, meadows, and barnyard to meet all kinds of animals. From splashy creek critters to the sneaky nighttime animals, we’ll discover where they live and how they survive. Plus, you’ll get to help take care of them and learn all about their wild ways. It’s going to be an animal-filled adventure you won’t forget!

Earthlings Unite! June 30-July 4

Every critter, big or small, has a job to help us all. From the bugs to the birds, the trees, and the bees, they all play a part in the world we see. At Camp Earthlings, we’ll care for them right, caring for animals from morning till night. We’ll feed and nurture, we’ll clean and play, as we learn to help the Earth every day. We’ll mulch and compost, clear vines away, plant hearty natives to brighten our day. We’ll speak for the trees and protect the land, working together, hand in hand. Join us on the farm, where fun and care meet, and discover how going green feels so sweet!

Gorgeous Growing Gardens July 7-11

Explore the Farm's gardens and discover your green thumb! Plant veggies, herbs, and flowers that attract pollinators. Use your senses to enjoy the colors, scents, textures, and tastes around you. Count butterflies as they flutter from flower to flower, and take home a plant to care for at home! It's a fun and colorful adventure!

The Chicken or the Egg July 14-18

Which came first? Let’s try to solve the riddle as we get to know the lovely chickens at Snipes Farm. These special birds make one of the most important and common foods in our every day. How do they do this? Let’s enjoy art, science, egg recipes, games, songs, and dances all about chickens and eggs! (We may only be observing but not handling hens this summer, but will still have lots to learn and enjoy!)

Pickles, Jams and Cheese, Oh My! July 21-25

Travel back in time and discover the fascinating history of food preservation! Harvest fresh ingredients, then dive into ancient techniques like canning, dehydrating, and fermenting. Join us for a week of delicious fun, where you’ll make and taste both timeless recipes and modern twists on classic methods. It’s a feast for your taste buds—and your curiosity!

Around the World July 28-Aug 1

We’re connected to the world around us in so many ways—like when a migrating bird finds a snack on the farm, or when raindrops fall from clouds that have traveled everywhere! Let’s savor the flavors of far-off places, like bananas, chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon (and more!). We’ll learn about animal and people globetrotters!

STEM Adventures on the Farm Aug 4-8

Let’s dive into the wonders of farm life through science! Ever wondered what makes the weather tick? Let’s build some cool gauges to measure it! Curious about what makes a cake rise? It’s chemistry in the kitchen! How does a bird take off in flight? That’s aerodynamics at work! Science is everywhere on the farm, and we’ll uncover its secrets together as we explore, experiment, and have fun making discoveries!

Food is Amazing Aug 11-15

Join us for an exciting journey through the life of food, from seed to harvest! Meet the farmers, get your hands dirty, and pitch in on fun projects around the farm. Discover how seeds, soil, seasons, insects, and tools all come together to grow the food that nourishes us. We’ll wrap up the week with our traditional Farm Olympics, a fun, community-building celebration of everything we've learned together!
