Job Description
Snipes Farm Day Camp and Camp Leadership Program (CLP) counselors create a safe and welcoming environment for children ages 5-15 to thrive and grow. Camp is set on a working farm with creeks, woods, and meadows to explore and animals and a garden to care for.
As an educational camp learning happens everywhere all the time with nature as our teacher and through creative lessons and activities. Fun, engaging, hands-on activities build skills, confidence and understanding including cooking, art, nature adventures, singing, cooperative games, sports, camp community service and friendship building.
Each camper group of 20 children has a leadership team of 2 counselors and a counselor-in-training (CIT). Campers come from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.
Counselors lead games and lessons and set the tone in their group’s morning meeting. They help campers with community care tasks such as animal and garden care. They accompany and support “specials” classes led by teachers and plan and lead activities with other staff for afternoon activities.
A strong candidate is an excellent multitasker with a genuine passion for working with and empowering young people. Applicants should be patient, fun-loving and confident in their ability to motivate and assist campers in everything from learning new skills to working through social situations. Farm Camp is an excellent opportunity for those in or working towards a career in social work or education.
Camp Counselor responsibilities and duties:
● Assist with camper arrivals and departures
● Bring enthusiasm to all-camp gatherings
● Create a comfortable and well-organized bunk space
● Plan engaging morning meetings
● Build community within your group
● Coordinate your group’s daily schedule of activities
● Collaborate to plan and lead choice-time lessons, games, and other group activities
● Help campers to navigate their ups and downs through a day
● Report any notable concerns or incidents to Camp Directors.
A counselor has the opportunity to teach what they love, to work in nature, to influence and impact lives, to make lasting friendships and to build their resume on a beautiful farm in a caring community.
Camp Counselor qualifications and skills:
● Must be over the age of 18
● A love of the outdoors
● Able to follow and facilitate a lesson plan
● At Least 2 years’ experience with direct work with children
● CPR certification preferred
● Proven track record of good organization and multitasking
● Excellent interpersonal skills
● Must be able to participate in moderately strenuous physical activity
● Current child safety clearances

Important information:
Snipes Farm Day Camp season: June 21- August 13, 2027
A required staff training: June 15-18
All-hands Camp Put-Away: August 16-18
Work hours: M-F; 7:30am-4:00pm
Salary: $16 per hour
Part-time opportunities may be available.
