Our Hives
Did you know that around 29 active honey bee hives thrive at Snipes Farm and Education Center?
Thanks to our partner The Italian Bee, these buzzing colonies play a vital role in supporting the farm’s organic ecosystem and local food security.
Bees are more than honey-makers. They’re essential pollinators responsible for one-third of the food we eat. Their presence at Snipes Farm contributes to biodiversity and serves as a natural indicator of environmental health.
But they don’t stay put! Honey bees can travel up to 3 miles, which is why caring for pollinators requires an entire community effort.

Master Beekeeping
Behind these hives is a heartfelt story. The Italian Bee was born from a backyard friendship and mentorship with an 80-year-old beekeeper named Lou in Morrisville.
Suzanne and Michael Luciano are now the stewards of the bees and are beloved members of our community. What began as a neighborly idea bloomed into a passion and a mission for stewardship.
The Italian Bee are Certified Master Beekeepers through the Eastern Apiculture Society of the United States. They offer community events and educational opportunities, and now have a delivery vehicle and a Honey Club! Interested in Beekeeping, Honey, Educational Programs, or need Bee Removal Services?
